Only a hair behind TLOU2 graphically in my book, but we’re talking open world compared to a linear story. The weather cycle is unmatched. Watching a storm form over the mountains begin to sweep towards you is like watching a god paint before your eyes. As you take control of Arthur the game lets you feel the burden of the world before it ever tells you what it means. Every where you turn you feel like you’re in a western portrait. A beautiful game that tackles a dying American dream, while living your most notorious cowboy fantasy. Where gameplay doesn’t feel innovative, the story, setting, and relationships make up for it more than enough. It’s not for impatient people, it’s an exploration of the wilderness best enjoyed with a pot of coffee or a glass of whiskey. Best open world design.
